Its a roller lifter. Its not taking impact at the same exact spot every time unlike the cam. Its a theory anyways...

LS7 lifters take .750 preload for target

when you soaked the lifters which way did you have them soaking?

ive installed them dry in past and didnt have issues

curious how was oil pressure during these failures?

With my Melling pump and higher pressure spring, since the last rebuild the hot oil pressure has always been above the halfway mark on the gauge at idle, and at 3/4 at cruise rpm and higher.
The first cam failure took out some main bearings and oil pressure plummeted.
I think the lifters were submerged upright, not sure. I pumped them submerged and most got solid so the pushrod cup wouldn't move, some didn't.

Imma sell the rockers, studs and guide plates to help fund the new cam. Probably the pushrods since they are 7.5".
Should I put them on ebay, or does somebody have an enemy on Tech that might want them?

It doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Having seen several of these posts on here in the past few months, makes me worry about the Comp Cam and LS7 lifter combo in my L31 in my Express. Over the past 5,000 miles or so it has slowly been invaded by a gremlin with multiple ball peen hammers. I can tell it is in the valve train. I have not run the engine over 5,000 rpm in weeks because of it and it hasn't gotten any worse. The engine has been run exclusively on Mobil One 0w40 synthetic which I have used in the past with no ill effects in numerous engines.

My cam is basically a clone of the LPE-74220 custom ground by Comp Cams on a 110* ICL. With a GMPP/Crane Gold 1.6:1 self aligning rocker arm it runs .534/.547" lift. I am running Edelbrock Etec170s untouched except for the Comp 977-16 springs Comp specs for that grind.

I have run numerous Comp cams in the past and never had a problem then again I have never run this much lift on a cast core roller either as my last cam was only .489/.489 lift with 1.6:1 rockers.

If this cam happens to be shot, I guess I will put the Lunati Hotcam clone I have in it.

I would keep it under 3000 rpm until you can check it, but I am paranoid.

Understand that but truth be known if it dies it is coming out and becoming a 383 or 396.

Valvetrain sounds like hell and it has always been a very quiet valvetrain even with the Crane Golds.
