The stock 5.7 rods should measure somthing like 6.096 center to center, U shouldn't have to change rods, just check the VTP..

I think he's talking about pushrods. If you plane the heads .035 you may need different pushrods. Are you sure you can take .035 off those? What about PTV?? What C/R are you shooting for, like 11:1?

I'd have your local speed shop measure and install some hardened ones and set up your springs for ya

A pushrod length checker is less than $20, and well worth it when milling heads and such. Taking .035 off of the heads will require a shorter pushrod or the lifter preload will be too tight, especially if you're using new replacement LS7 lifters, which have a taller cup.

Use tootsie rolls!!! lol Assemble your decked heads on the motor with a microwaved tootsie roll on the number one cylinder, rotate the motor, remove the heads then the tootsie roll, freeze the tootsie roll, then mic it to see PTV clearance. That simple!!

you forgot a step...

...when done measuring frozen tootsie roll, let thaw for 11.3 minutes, then eat tootsie roll.

7.4 pushrods will work fine if using a aftermarket cam. i milled 243's .040 with a tr220 and used 7.4 pushrods on a 5.3. the only correct way is to measure.

a little simple half *** method i used was just when i milled mine .030 and used a .040 head gasket. i took took 7.4 - .030 and then took whatever stock head gasket is - .040 and iirc i have a 7.35 rod
