Default 228r in a 408?

buddy spun a bearing in his 6.0 now wants to go 408. he has a 228r 110lsa and a set of ported 243's.

i know it would choke out the 408 a little bit. but would it work and put down decent numbers?

It will work, it will sign off a bit early with that LSA but should still have good power below 5700 or so.

throw vic jr with 4150 style throttle body with that cam and it will scream to 6500 rpm. the truck manifold is better suited for a 112-114 lsa cam.

It will depend on compression and other factors, however, it should be fine although a little bit small. Keep in mind the LS7 which is a 427 comes with a much smaller cam albeit better heads and does just fine from the factory. 211/230 .560/.557 LSA120+4 of course that is a very different cam with a very different purpose. Don't expect to push the 228 above 6200 rpm.

Youre advance is wrong there... its not a plus 4.

The LSA of the smaller cam also pushes the intake close to be very late, which helps with high RPM power. Despite its much smaller numbers, ther LS7 cam keeps valves open later than that 228 does. It also opens the exhaust a ton sooner than the 228 does.
