got a chance to buy one cheap. is this a vvt / dod enginge anyone ?i cant tell by the picture he sent me.

No vvt should appear like your standard 4.8 or 5.3. But that year model should have the better ls2 rods in it. They are stronger.

I think the 2004's were a half model year. Not all of them have the stronger rods.

2003 was the split year they used both rods.
Which had 2 diff wrist pin sizes.

Some 04's had the light duty rods but at that price you can't go wrong either way lol

04 is either or depending on the year the engine was built, not the model year of the truck. It's 2003 engines that have the weaker rods..... which came in 2004 model trucks built in 2003. I am sure there is a cutoff somewhere before or after the new year of when they changed. I mean it's not even just the rods but the blocks changed too..... being they went from unequal length to equal length head bolts...... but I am sure they mixed and matched until whatever parts were gone lol. My 04 has the weaker rods and the older block........ but its a August 2003 built truck.

Either way who cares as $300 is a good price for a good engine.
