I still like that. It satisfies the big cube guy from the 50's that still makes up part of my psyche and it uses the new technology of turbo's or Procharger blowers. It doesn't do much for the "show" that I love in the Maggies but they apparently don't have the boost numbers necessary to do big hp... but, come to think of it, I haven't yet taken Grippy's suggestion of talking to Left Coast. I'd prefer the show of the Gimmy clone on top if I can reach my goal. Maybe with a 390/408, fairly high compression and a TVS 2300???

I gotta call Left Coast.
This is the route I'm going with my build as well. Im going to be running a LSX 434 with about 10.5:1 compression and a Kenne Bell that Ill run on about 5-8lbs of boost. Im not shooting for 1000whp more like 750whp though. My thought was a blower and a lot of cui will make a torque monster right off idle.

I agree just because Kenne Belle isn't discussed much on here doesn't mean it couldn't be perfect for you. The whipple setup isn't highly respected on this board due to poor customer support and the lack of an intercooler. I was able to get almost 500whp with my setup on a stock 6.0

Big cubes + high compression + supercharger is like a freight train off idle, highly recommended setup.

I'm now thinking a LQ9 stretched to 427 and then I'm vacillating between the Kenne Bell and a F series Procharger with a tall intake like the Edelbrock or one of these........ http://www.precision-metalcraft.com/Home_Page.php

(wish I had the $$$ for one of them but you get the idea)

that intake manifold looks familiar.

besides running a kenne belle replace the need for a intake mani.

Why are you dead-set on running with an LQ9 block? There are better blocks out there if you go big cubes. I mean the only way to get that kinda displacement with an LQ9 is to re-sleeve it.

I'm fishing... not dead-set on anything. The thing is, I have no idea what is available, feasable and adviseable.

Assuming pretty big cubes are what I want, what block would you recommend I figure on starting with?

I appreciate help as much of my experience started about 1958 and ended by the 1964.

The LSX block and warhawk blocks have good reputations...

Aren't they expensive? Or... would I end up with just as much in a LQ9 after the machine work was done? Come to think of it... The thing that got me going with the LQ9 was a story in GMHTP mag about a C5 that had a 427 built from a LQ9.

Don't get me wrong, it's a viable route for sure, it's probably the cheapest block you can get that can go to that size, most people like those because they are iron. just was curious as to what made you want to use a LQ9 that's all.
Benefits of the blocks Atomic mentioned is those can go much bigger than 427. An LSX Tall Deck can go to 488 ci safely and some have taken them into the 5xx ci range when re-sleeved.
Re-sleeved aluminum blocks have held up 1,xxx hp successfully as well. LS7 block is 427 ci out of the box. Just giving you idea's. You'd have to do a comparo on machining costs and re-sleeving costs to see which one is cheaper, but the block atomic mentioned are around $1500-$2000.

If I wanted to go bigger than I am now (410cu) I would get an LSX block personally. NA I would probably hang on to the LQ9 block to 4.060 bore with 4" stroke, but I would be more comfortable with more cylinder material with boost or nitrous.
