top piston is 03 up and the bottom one is 99 - 02.

i remeber reading that in 05 the LQ4 went to full floating Piston pins like the LQ9.
Another wrench to throw in the puzzle.

You can see the teflon insert in the newer piston in the top picture those are the good ones.
