Default Reality of Semi Metallic brake pads

Dealer mentioned at last oil change that brake pads were on the way out and I said uh huh- OK, thank you. Sure enough about a week and a half later was on the way home and applied brakes for intersection and got a big jet wash noise. And so the front inner pads were gone and I figure no problem- I have these semi metallic police pads from Raybestos that I never got to putting on my 2016 Sierra(driving a 2018 Silverado currently) So I order up a pair of rotors from Summit and put everything on. Got some grinding that I was told was gonna happen that I thought would lighten up as the pads bedded in and high or rough points were worn down. Well no change, as a matter of fact the grinding when I apply the brakes intensified and recently developed a faint howl that is commensurate with vehicle speed. After checking everything; dust shield spacing, putting disc brake quiet just about everywhere I ordered up some AC delco pads, which are semi metallic as well- they went on tight and took a little more work to put on- but the same grinding maybe a smidge less intense and the howl, too. Is this the nature of semi metallic pads? I really thought they would wear in.......

Wait… you’re not buying the cheapest pads available?

I have not had that experience with semi metallic pads. If OEM pads are semi metallic then certainly GM is not having that experience either.

Don't cheap out on brakes, I got the Delco semi metallics thinking that the construction of the friction material bonded to the backing plate would prevent movement and noise........

Are you sure it's the pad and not a vibration clip in backwards. My memories getting rusty too damm many platforms too keep up with. But memory serves the vibration clips can get put in incorrectly.

Not proud to admit it but I did this on 4 piston Brembo rears one time. Clips on incorrectly and took it for a test drive to quickly experience a lot of ugly noise. It's worth looking at a second time to be sure.
