This is the one. It's got a hole in front, on the bottom, and on the side.

Ah gotcha. I liked that one I posted the link to, it looks like it draws air from the fender and is sealed well so that it would only get fender air.
I wish my K&N was like that. Mine looks like it just pulls in whatever with that joke of a block off plate.
Is the volant being loud a common complaint? Pretty odd that it would be louder than all the others.

On gm-trucks it is. I usually take what they complain about with a grain of salt but this one I'll agree with. Especially since my exhaust is now quiet again. And it's weird. It's not loud all the time. Cruising it's dead quiet but if you accelerate just the right amount it suddenly gets real loud and then as the rpms rise it goes back to being real quiet. Only thing I can think of it has something to do with throttle blade opening a certain amount depending on engine load.

That would be an interesting test. The resonator would help sound but you'd still hear the intake sucking (ever pull the filter lid and rev one? they're still loud but likely quieter than no resonator). But you'd probably lose a little power due to the stock intake tube too.

No hurry bro, just very curious. It seems like your Volant box with larger filter should reduce restriction with the additional surface area to draw air through. Combined with access to cool air via the “snorkel” it seems like a sound idea.
