info: '15 burb, 5.3 (L83), tvs1900, corsa catback, CAI

i installed a 3.1 pulley (from orig 3.4) on my tvs1900. boost is about 10# now.
i was getting some pinging. it looks to be bad batch of gas.
as i filled tank w/ shell & pinging seems to have gone away, after a bit.

after talking to a buddy, i decided to look at my plugs b/c i wasnt sure what was installed. default GM iridium [ACDelco 12622441 (41-114)]
they looked ok color wise but there was some slight blistering.
so after looking around, i figured i should get some colder plugs... 6 or 7 range.

there is nothing on NGK parts finder site for my application except coils.
if i search camaro, i see TR6IX & TR7IX

my buddy recommended BKR7ES-11, but the reach is deeper (0.750). i am not sure if that will fit &/or cause issues.


the TR*IX have a reach of 0.708, which matches the OEM plugs currently installed.

all 3 of these NGKs are projected tip. where from some research from here, it is said to use nonprojected tips.

so what does the hive say?
-projected / non-projected tip?
-what plug, NGK or something else?

 

Did you retune after swapping pulleys?

 

i was told everything looked ok from the last time it was tuned, except for the pinging

 

What's the OEM delco number on the plugs they run factory in the ZL1, the LT4 covettes and CTS-V's?

Those are already supercharged so I'd assume they work great for your application.

 

What's your iat doing when it pings?

i am seeing info all over the place, but looks like options range from 0.708 - 0.98"+ (17.9mm-25mm+) for camaro.

=can plugs be indexed w/ a DI motor?
cant say i have come across any one doing so or mentioning it.

i'll be reaching out to a GM parts buddy about ZL1 plug p/n# & specs.

 

found the OEM ZL1 plug #41-128, heat range = 20

took forever to find its heat range (& it makes no sense to me considering all the talk of 5,6,7,8 range plugs)


my current plugs:
#41-114, heat range = 16


will try to confirm w/ GM parts tomorrow (if they even have this level of detail)

 

I have a 15 silverado with a 5.3 and a turbo. I have been running brisk silver plugs 1 heat range colder than stock with good results. Platinum and iridium don’t have the best thermal properties but tend to last a long time. The silver plugs may not last as long but might help combat knock.

did you go w/ GR12*/14* (NGK 7 & 6 equiv, respectively) ? or which?

however since my plugs have a heat range of 16, i am now not sure if 6 or 7 would be proper.

 

Also I question the need to index plugs on the SIDI engines. The idea was always to not block the incoming charge from the ignition source. Now with the high pressure spray into the cylinder itself and everything that comes with it may provide a more homogenized mixture that no longer requires the same precision in controlling where the bomb starts as the flame front may spread more evenly than in previous engines. Interesting idea and definatley something worth investigating.
