Ford 7.3 Pushrod V8 codename: Godzilla

It's going to be an iron big block.
Why is a 7.3 pushrod iron big block exciting? GM had the 8.1 for years and nobody gave a **** about it. Because it was an iron big block.

But the 8.1 was basically a disappointment for power. Good torque. **** power
This could be the start of big block wars, and that will be fun to see. We have 750+hp small blocks rolling outta the factory. Maybe we can start seeing some mid 5-600hp big blocks again.
This also might be Ford trying to field an engine to take a piece of the marine pie from GM and Cummins. Who knows. Party on, make power

I've heard chatter about them switching the raptor back to a v8. This could very live in there but I'd imagine it's a heavy beast. But with Ram looking at building their own off road truck that's probably going to have a healthy engine in it (detuned hellcat?), it would make sense that Ford would want to compete with it.
The raptor currently makes 450 hp and 510 tq. The same motor in the GT makes 650 hp and 550 tq. Just turning up the current raptor motor would be a better choice.

There's a thread I just read today over on the GMtrucks.com about how GM is coming out with a 6.6 gasser the the HD line and the 6.6 is not the duramax. It suppose compete with the 7.3 gasser.

Probably just that gut reaction excitement of a big V8 vs. V6 since Ford went ecoboost with everything recently. Regardless of how it actually ends up performing, there's just that knee-jerk reaction that V8 vs. V6 will give some people...and I will confess I'm in that category, even when it's a totally irrational reaction.

One of the biggest problems with the 8.1 was lack of aftermarket support, since it wasn't a hot item due to being large and heavy the aftermarket had no reason to invest in products that people aren't going to buy. I have a feeling the same thing will happen with this engine.
I hate to seem like such a negative nancy but when you have small lightweight aluminum small blocks making big power, there's no reason for people to swarm to big blocks. Adding another big block to the market isn't going to make big blocks all the rage, if they were going to be a thing, they would already be a thing. We have tons of big blocks we could build. Old school and some newer. And everyone is going away from them because of what can be done with a small lightweight small block these days.
They could be making a play for marine, but the Ford 6.2 is already pretty popular in high end performance boats. And it will likely be a better option than this motor coming out in that segment.
