Does anyone have any pics of how they installed an aftermarket tranny cooler. Just need to get an idea of it
You need to remove the temperature thermostat in the tranny block or buy a 6l80e manifold block ,if you dont remove the thermostat ,no matter what you do thermostat with dictate temp 190+. From tranny to radiator in /out to 40kcooler back to tranny. Or bypass radiator. Im working on doing writing up.
you don't need this cooler, all you need to do is remove the thermal bypass valve plug the hole and your good. My trans doesn't run any hotter than 160 running the crap out of my truck with a converter.

I did this at my Fathers house with a Brace and Bit and a chainsaw so no giggling! as you can see the t stat and the spring is removed and i tossed them in bag, did some measuring and came up with a stainless button head screw and that is the seat end and filed the end of the screw to get the correct length. The bypass uses the spring to keep the t stat off of the seat and when temp rises the t stat brass end makes contact with the seat inside of the aluminium block mounted on the transmission and lets fluid run through the cooler. Basically my valve stays seated and lets fluid pass through the cooler all of the time. BTW you really don't need to turn the treads off of the screw at all just file to length. Questions just ask
