I think 160 the truck would struggle to warm up in the winter. My buddy had a 145 in his 2003 Silverado and he always bitched out his truck always being cold during the winter lol. I think I am going to go with a 180.

2016 or newer the active grill shutters are on most GM trucks. It does depend on the trim level of the truck. Mine is a Z71 1LT with the All Star package and it came with them.

Thermostats do serve another purpose besides just regulating when to open and close the valve, it also restricts the flow of the fluid allowing it more time to cool in the radiator instead of letting it circulate too fast without allowing it the proper time to have its heat dispersed in the radiator. It really depends on how hot you want your engine to run and also, the cooling capabilities of your setup. Say you want to run around 180-190 and your setup can keep the fluid cool at 170, no problem, just get a 180, maybe even a 190 therm. Whenever it hits that key temp, it will open up and allow the hot coolant to flow to the radiator to give it a chance to cool while at the same time, taking in the cool coolant that was in the radiator causing the therm to close.
I grabbed this from something I read a while back. This was also covered on the one of latest Power and Speed podcasts with Greg Banish on why running 160's is a stupid idea.

If you run a 160, it will always be open and never allow the radiator to do it's job correctly.

My Whipple came with a 160 and Lingenfelter used to include 160's with their Maggies. It hit 0 degrees in dfw this past winter and I still had plenty of heat no problem actually. With the factory cooling system I think the only time it would make a difference over a 180 though is at the track after a cool down because it cant really keep up on the street to make much difference anyway. I haven't paid much attention in the summer I just drive it.

That's a nice truck. Might have to go with those tires for that half mile drag event next year.
