Yukon Denali XL rear suspension

Yukon Denali XL rear suspension
I've got a '12 Yukon Denali XL that's equipped with the Auto-Leveling rear suspension. I tow with it ocassiinally, my tractor, boat, and my camper. Heaviest being my camper at 7800lbs. It taxes the rear air system hard, even with a WD hitch set up properly. Has anyone with these big SUV's used helper bags in the springs to help share the load a little? It does the job but the weight works the hell out of that little compressor. I always carry my pancake air compressor camping for bike tires and such. Would be easy to air up a set of bags if I put the schrader valve easy to get to.

People use Air Lift Bags in the rear springs all the time. You're camper is likely too heavy for the Denali. If your truck was empty and you weigh as much as a jockey you'd be right up against the GCWR.

I would get the Air Bags and play around with an Air Pressure that works with the Auto Ride. I am not a fan of the Auto Ride for towing purposes, it works fine for what you carry in your vehicle but towing leaves little to be desired IMO.

I haven't paid much attention to the GCVW, but towing rating is 8300. I have a good distribution hitch. Tongue weight should be around 750lbs. As I understand it, the shock mounts used for the load leveling aren't really supposed to be "weight bearing" to that extent. I'll probably get the bags just to take some of the load off those shocks. The system is 6yrs old and has 110K miles on it. It still works great and the bags look good, no cracks etc. but I'd rather not work it any harder than necessary. An $80 set of coil bags is easier to install and probably more effective than that high-dollar factory air system.

Looks like I'm right around the limits, which I'm fine with. I'll add the bags and roll on. The truck came with an aftermarket time-delay type brake controller in it, I've upgraded that to a better proportional type controller. I don't get in a hurry with it, should be fine.
