Default What's needed for a cam swap on '07+ truck?

A local guy asked me to swap a cam in his truck but I noticed that they have a single bolt(IIRC) on the cam rather than the three like the older ones. Saw this when a friend was doing a cam in a new truck, but I know he mentioned that he needed a cam gear off an older truck in order to use the LS1 3-bolt cams.

Is this true or am I wrong? The guy is serious about the cam swap and from what I was told everything should be the same as the 99-06 trucks. What should I watch out for or should I buy for the swap?

If the truck has AFM/DOD or VVT, it is a big job.

I've done a cam swap twice. It's not as bad as would think. Depends if you want to change lifters or not.

Check out this link, it tells how to disable the dod. If you have VVT you will need a timing cover also.

Its an '07 4.8L and the guy wants to do a Z06 cam with LS6 springs. Nothing fancy he just wants to a little more power since its a daily driver. My friend told me that I can use a cam sprocket off any LS1 or any LSx that uses that particular sprocket, which is what Im looking for right now.

Is it any different for those 4.8 or 5.3's?

from what iv heard you just need the cam, springs, pushrods (if desired) and the 3 bolt cam sprocket. or a custom grind 1 bolt cam?

He's gonna use a 3-bolt cam, so I need to find a 4x sprocket somewhere. Any idea where I can get one that won't take a long time to receive?

Since it is a 4.8L you will not have to deal with the AFM/DOD stuff, which is good.

Lingenfelter sells the 4x cam gear conversion:

http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...egory_Code=C38

That is a cheap price for all the parts.

All you need is the springs, a 3 bolt cam, and the tools to install.
