Default truck was low on antifreeze.

today i was looking under the hood and my friend saw that i was about just under 1/2 tank low on antifreeze. truck is a 2008 6.0 with 43,500 miles and as long as i can remember i get the fishy smell from it when i shut it down. i went home filled up the tank and let it run for about 5 minutes. i shut it off and the tank fills up to about 2" low from being at the top. i fill it up again and let it run for another 3-4 minutes, this time after i shut it off it's about 1" low from the top. i start it up again and shut it off and this time it went back to being 1" low again. i re-filled it once again tonight but have not started it yet. when all was said and done 1/2 gallon of coolant was put in the truck. I checked the oil cap for any milkyness and nothing, i also checked the dipstick and it's the same level as when i changed the oil (no fishy smell) and is the normal oil color. the truck doesn't leak any fluid on the groud and doesn't leave stains on the driveway. the only thing i found was a little drip stain around the clamp where the upper hose goes into the block. any ideas? (and yes i'm taking it to the dealer) i'm just tryin to get a head start on ideas.

clamp into the block as in at the water pump correct?
also check and see if your drip hole in the water pump is leaking a little and possibly drying before it hits the ground. slide under the truck and remove the 4 15mm bolts that hold the plastic cover by the bumper and youll be able to see the underside of the water pump. if there is any discolor to it then the pump is leaking.

turns out i have a leaking water pump, leaking upper hose and a leaking oil line from the oil cooler. i should have the truck back tomorrow. only thing i have to pay is for the hoses and labor about $300. not terrible considering what it could have been IMO. thanks for the help.

The hoses? Already having to replace the hoses.. Damn..

I would have thought they would have lasted a LONG time, the ones on my el Camino are stock, from 1986, and would still pass ANY inspection.. It has 240K miles on it too..

Guess they dont make rubbers like they used too..

check your hose coming from the tank an check to see if the tank is leaking.

why wasnt it covered under warrenty? its only an 08 and way under 100000 miles. i didnt have to pay for any of my repairs.

the waterpump is covered under the 100k warrenty, the hoses aren't. wearable part i guess? the service guy is REAL good with me and double and triple checked it.

ok...understood but man 300 to change 2 hoses 2 gaskets and a water pump when you have electric fans?! F that i would have brough them the gaskets and they replace the water pump. then i would have taken it home and replaced my own hoses for 55.00 so id have 70-80.00 max in it. no offense but they put the shaft in you for 300.00
