Ehh I just had a brain fart. I meant to say I know tons that are not bypassed and have zero issues with the cold weather (mine included LOL). Don't waste your money on the bypass

Stupid night shift, think it's time for coffee

Andy, I believe you are thinking about the optional External Cold Weather Bypass valve that Tru-Cool sells. I never install those and it doesn't slow down warm up times.

I saw 200-210* beating on my 4l60E before trucool here in sth louisiana summer ... Normal driving i saw 180*s in 90+ summer weather ... With trucool and 6L80E swap i see 140 normal driving in 96* heat and i saw 180* beating on it in Biloxi while in slow moving traffic in 90*plus this weekend .... Soon as it got some fresh air it went right down to 140 again... Didnt have it in during winter to see how cool it runs but we dont get much of a winter down south any more ....
Edit: i bypassed the radiator because we have no real winters here LOL...

Thats great to know... I always wondered about that. The way they make it sound I could do damage by not running it...

Thanks Roger.

which one u got? got a link, mines been running 210 with a smaller hayden cooler bypassed from the radiator. old trans ran 210 most of the year and still lasted over nine years, was still good when i swapped it, but would rather cool it down some.

nobody runs the coolers inline with the radiator for more fluid capacity?

Most (including myself) do run through the stock cooler in the radiator first, then through their aftermarket aux cooler(Tru Kool, B&M, etc). But not for the extra capacity. It doesn't hold very much fluid, I'd guess maybe a pint or so.

People that bypass the radiator's cooler are wanting to avoid a fluid intermix if it breaks inside the radiator.

Mine goes through the rad, then the factory external cooler, then my aftermarket cooler...

But I tow a freakin' heavy toy hauler, and last summer I hauled it and my transmission was at a solid 217*F the whole trip, lol.
Though, it was 95*F or more, ambient temps at the time...

The 4L65E really isn't built for a GCVW of 15000+ lbs...
