Default Thinking of a cam swap

I'm ready for the next upgrade for my 08 5.3 4x4 CCSB, and I was thinking cam swap.

Current performance mods:
Vette servo
K&N CAI
Magnaflow cat back exhaust

Can anyone recommend a good cam for my truck?
It has 3.73s and rolls on 265/55/20's with the stock converter

Also what will also need to be done along with switching cams. (push rods, rockers)

Thanks, Nick

It all depends on what you are wanting out of the truck. Will you be racing, towing, etc. Are you wanting to run a higher stalling converter. The gears you have are good. You will need rods, springs,. Depending on the lift of cam you can run cheaper springs. Go search through threads and you will find tons of info on here are youtube vids for ideas.

I had a cam on my 5.3 with a 6 speed it was a good DD had a little rattle from a stop in trafic or stop signals and the 6 speed has better ratios than the 4

so if you are thinking about a cam , espeicaly with the 4 speed
get 4.10 gears and 3000 stall then add a TSP220 or 224R cam they are great with a stall

i have a 08 1500 5.3. i put the comp cam 212/218 cam in mine. it worked great without a converter. it was very streetable and pulled good the whole way across the power band. but if u want the rough idle like a cam i will suggest going with a little bigger one. i got all my parts from texas speed a performance. good people to deal with. i recently got my tuck tuned and it runs a lot better.

I'm just looking for a little bit more power, but I also tow a 28ft boat, so it can't be that crazy. My father has an 03 SS Silverado and I want to be able to smoke him. we raced only once so far from a 30mph roll, I got the jump on him but he was next to me by the time we had to let off. I also plan to get a custom tune but I'm not sure how much it will wake up my truck.

The bbp tune was my best upgrade by far so far. And you'll need it anyways for the cam so I'd suggest getting it. Just read threw ANY forum basically...everybody raves custom tunes are the way to go on these trucks. Handhelds like hypertech are a waste

Doable. You need long tubes and a good exhaust as well as a cam and might as well throw a ported TB on there and quite possibly injectors if you get in right dialed you might max your stockers out. Any which way you slice it to make the most out of it a good tune is essential. The difference is night and day. As mentioned pushrods and springs needed too PAC1518 or even the Yellow LS6/3 springs if you go with a small enough cam they are durable suckers.

Cam size? Somewhere around 218 is good but I "wouldn't" go over 220 for a DD on that 5.3L bu t suit yourself. Your only talking a few ponies/torque within a reasonably close range plus or minus of 218 anyways, its just where you move the curve around vs RPM that changes up. But ive said it before and i ll say it again, we'd have as good a job picking you a wife as a cam over the net, so gont blame me if you dont like what ya get

I say go BIGG or go home...............

Just palying lol If your going to tow and you have on 08 im sure you got everyone's faverate transmission to break I'd go with a nice cam that does not require a converter even with a 40k cooler and a stall behind it your on barrowed time just my $.02

Decide how you want the cam to idle,
decide where you want it to shift,
decide where you want the power to come in at.

Then the cam choice is easier to decide, also gear and converter combo helps a lot too.
Being a 4wd and its got a 4spd, id run a 212/218 on a 112 to make it chop up a tad, but id run a tight converter to still be able to pull stuff. 220 max and thats with a 3200 converter and 4:10s
