Question To Stall or Not to Stall...

I've asked this before, but it's come time to buy and looking for any final pieces of advice.

5.3/6l80 4x4 with stock 20s, 4.11 gears and TrueTrac diff. I will be swapping cams during the DOD/VVT delete at the same time, something small from Cam Motion, maybe 210/215 and adding Tri-Y headers since I have them already.

Do I add a Circle D 3000-3200 278mm???? This is for fun only, no other real purpose. I don't tow or race. Total cost will be $1000 for purchase and install, for the converter only.

The cam is fine if all you're doing is DD it and want to keep your low end grunt.

The 278mm converter and the cam will surprise you. It'll pull hard as hell on the low to mid rpm's and should be ok up to red line.

As for the price....seems steep to me. I would ask the dealer what the labor is for R&R a 6l80e. Go from there. It may buy you some bargaining power.

Thanks for the comments, I'm excited! The converter is 600 shipped to me, 400 install. I'm ok with that since I can't do it myself.

Do the 3-3200. You'll love it.

My converter is my favorite upgrade, do it! I have the 278mm 26-2800 and sometimes I wish I had the 30-3200. But I do tow occasionally so I probably made the wiser choice.

I went with a 2600 stall with my stock 5.3 engine. Thought it might be too much because I drive ALOT, in all sorts of traffic..highway...at least 100 miles a day.

Now I wish I would have gone with at LEAST a 2800 stall.

Going for a 3000 next time around. You made the right decision IMO.
