Something Broken in Differential
Hi Guys,
I think I've broken the limited slip but wanted to check and see if anyone else has run across this or had other thoughts first.
When driving the suburban it was chugging a bit. I thought maybe fouled plug or even the transmission. Checked the supercharger, plugs and all no luck. Driving this morning turning into Chik-Fil-A I roll down the window and hear my left rear tire dragging as I turn......I straighten out and drive a few feet and then a loud pop from the back. So I'm thinking the locker is staying engaged all the time. Anyone else had this? I am either going to get an entire rear end from a junkyard and swap or buy parts and fix. Has anyone upgraded theirs before? Recommended parts? Thanks

Drop the cover and check for parts failure. Believe it or I have had a oil change straighten out symptoms like yours provided it's not grenaded.
BUT, being as you are blown and probably play a lot we all do then expect to find carnage and plan on a posi unit at a minimum and probably a gear set as well if it flat detonated.
For what a salvage yard rear end will cost you can usually upgrade to aftermarket posi and a gm gearset for less than or equal to inferior OE parts in the form of a replacement rear end.

Sounds like you broke some teeth off your spider gears or cracked the G80 case. Just happened to mine not too long ago and did the exact same things your saying. My diff stayed locked and that chugging feeling is pieces of metal getting in between the gears. Best bet is to park it take the cover off and inspect it. More then likely it's all in pieces.
