The other difference would be 6.2 2 wheel vs 5.3 4 wheel. Is the 5.3 enough for a hot rodder at heart? Thinking I'll drive a bit nicer in the 5.3 4 wheel just cause the power isn't as readily available and it might keep me out of trouble!

However, if you think you'll ever need the 4x4 I would recommend finding a dealer with an NHT 4x4 in stock. I was able to find 3 or 4 within a few hours of me when I purchased mine a few months ago.
The 5.3 even with the 4x4 is still very capable of trouble. Just a few mods and a good tune. You will definitely get better mileage with a 6.2 4x2...esp with a good tune. It's up to you. I got the 2wd for towing purposes...a 4x4 would be nice, but I tow more than I would use 4x4.

I don't tow much anymore or go 4 wheeling. So don't really need either but it's for fun with a 6.2 or the 4x4. Haven't made up my mind. Rode around town and played a bit with the truck and I'm sitting at 15 mpg right now. I'm going to make a 55 mile highway trip in the morning to see real numbers for myself.

Well in that case, if it's just for fun I'd go with the 6.2. The 4x4 is cool when you live in the snow, but even when I get in the snow, I know how to drive in it with my 2wd so it's not an issue. Go with the 6.2 2wd and show us some track times
