Hey does anybody know of a site I can plug my VIN into to find out if my truck was originally remote start enabled but with no remotes? I would LOVE to upgrade!

you could just go to the dealership and ask a service or sales person to pull the build sheet. i don't remember the code but it said exactly remote start accommodation package. if you look in your DIC you should find a menu saying turn on/off remote start. and it wasn't cheap. the dealer i was at had to right a we owe to me to take to service and it was for $250.

^ That's what I thought. There is no reason why a dealership wouldn't want to add an option to a truck that already has it...

Yeah I figured it out. 195 for remotes from Chevy and 128 from GM parts direct. And I checked my glovebox; my truck is a remote start model, so I emailed the dealer. I bought my truck in February but hopefully they'll still hook me up.

RPO code AP8 is for the factory remote start prep package. It will appear in your glovebox.

So if I get the remotes off eBay all I have to do to program them is go into the menu in the DIC? Nothing complicated, no need for a visit to the dealer?

No and they should be cheaper. Go into the DIC and there will be an option to relearn remote, or program remote, or something. Then push the check mark, and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remotes. The remote start will work from there.

I don't think this is correct, but I hope it is......

I have the "prep package" for remote start. When I researched it, you have to buy the remote and then the programming. The programming is the expensive part. The programming was not done in the DIC from what I understand.

I hope I'm wrong, but I guess we'll see pretty soon.
