Default Jump Seat Console Repair

Just an fyi tech tip for you guys with NNBS trucks. I'm sure there are some of you out there with this same issue.

A few months ago my latch on the jump seat center console lid broke in half. If so, you also know that GM doesn't sell the individual latch assembly even though you can remove the backing on the lid and 2 screws hold the latch in place. You either have to buy the entire jump seat assembly~$400 or you can now buy the lid with the latch~$100+.

I've been looking for cheaper alternatives to fixing the issue. This weekend I took the 2 halves of the latch and got some piano wire and some of the Loctite Plastic Epoxy Bonding Agent. Put the piano wire on the top side of the latch, where is bends to open the lid (for rigidity and to have a natural spring type effect, and then coated both sides with the Loctite epoxy. This stuff hardened into like a second skin of plastic. Actually thought it was going to be too rigid to actually bend to open the lid.

Let it dry for 24 hours and installed it and so far working better than when it was brand new. Time will tell if it will be a long-term solution but I'm liking it so far. Finally able to use my console again.

I didn't take any pics, but if you guys need an after shot to see what it looks like I can take the panel and latch back off and snap a few.

Hope this might help a few of you out. I know on some of the other GM sites it seems like this latch breaking is a pretty common occurance.

Is this part impossible to junkyard dive? I would think these jumpseat consoles would be commonplace at yards with totaled trucks by now.

I've yet to find them pieced out. Usually have to buy the complete jump seat assembly?

I just don't know why GM doesn't seel the latch itself. Its a part designed to fail, and the way the lid is able to be disassembled and the latch removed and replaced its a part that should be designed to for replacement. Couldn't be more than a $5 part so seperately. Its even shown on the jumpseat diagram as an individual unit, but not sold as such.

So far my fix is working great so I'm happy.
