Got another "work truck"!

Nice
4.8 4-speed gets worse factory fuel mileage than DOD 5.3 6-speed though, fyi, and i believe the difference gets bigger once both are tuned. Somebody had to let the cat out of the bag
sorry. Good looking truck though, for sure

I've got around 4,200 miles on it now. It is averaging 20-21 on my commute. So I'm pretty happy with that. Only think I've done to it is tune on it some. My 06 Z71 picked up about 2-3mpg after cold air, UD pulley, headers, and offroad Y. So if this one does the same, it will be 23-24ish and I'll be tickled over that.

I wasn't saying that your choice was inefficient, but you said you went with the 4.8 vs the 5.3 because of your long commute. I was merely pointing out that you didn't really gain fuel mileage by not getting the 5.3. You did, however, save some dough vs the 5.3. If the 4.8 is all you want or need, then that's perfect
I love the truck, for sure.

That has got to be the most mid-quoted article I've ever read in Hot Rod, lol. The engine didn't blow up, so they said LS engines are really hard to kill, so a bunch of people on the internet conclude that the 4.8 must be the best LS to boost. There are attributes of the 4.8 that make it look more tolerant to messing with it, but the cylinders walls of a 5.3 are hardly dangerously thin for boost. People have taken stock aluminum LS2 and LS3/L92 blocks up into the same horspower territory, so it isn't like the bigger stroke, bigger bore, aluminum block LS engines have some fatal flaw that the little iron ones don't. The joys of the internet
Anyway, I'll stop mucking up this guy's thread; he obviously is setting up a very nice, clean street truck suitable for a LONG daily commute, not some insane 1000-horse beast. Once again, nice rig, congrats on the purchase

i said that as a joke
. i have a 4.8 truck, that i have most of a turbo kit put together for. i don't plan on making more than 450hp without swapping to a bigger turbo, and cam, heads, etc. i know you can make way more than that on just turbo, but i like to have the whole package.
