Default Differences betwen GMT900 gassers?

My dad wants me to look for a truck for him. I'm pretty familiar with the GMT900 diesels but don't have a clue about the gassers. Are there significant differences from year to year? Are any years typically preferred over others? What are the V8's that are available in these trucks now?

The early years with the DOD feature have had issues eating cams, so I would probably try to avoid those. Aside from that, not much that I know about the GMT900 platform.

The most significant change is the tranny's. 6L80 vs 4L60. I personally think the 6L80 is light years better.

07, maybe 08 you could get the 6.0 vortec max. 6.2 was Denali only until 10' I think. All 4.3 and 4.8 trucks will be 4l60e, 5.3 were 4l60e for the first couple years, then switched to the 6l80e.. All 6.2 trucks have the 6l80e. They added USB ports around 10'. 12' and 13' models have the disgusting chrome bumper caps.

Damn you guys are terrible with the years.

09 was the first year for the 6l80e and in very limited numbers the 6.2 L92. 07 and 08 were 4l60e and shitty dod. The vmax had an L76 which is different than the L76 in the G8s. Basically an aluminum lq4 with L92 heads with vvt and dod. You can tell its an 09 from the outside by the front bumper center piece having a slot in it instead of being solid. If its got an L92 the tailpipe will be 3.5" and exit straight out the back. 09 and up got you bluetooth, usb interface and backup camera on some of the higher level models. So basically get him an 09 or newer, theyre all around better trucks. Well more well equipped anyway. All depends on how much he wants to spend and if he wants a loaded out one.

Yeah Cody helped me when I was looking for an NNBS and man I appreciated it !

Although my 09' Denali does not have USB , I believe it wasn't for sure until 10' that they got that feature but I could be wrong .

And technically the first year for the 6.2 and 6speed was 07, but in a Denali truck .

I can tell you the 6 speed is awesome , shifts nice .
Love the 6.2 also . It only has AFM , no DOD on my truck thank goodness , or I'd ditch it in a heartbeat and not have to worry about it.

All the newer v8 run just as good as in the NBS trucks , but the 6 speed trans is way better than the old pos 60e.
