Default D44 vs D37 alternator

2008 silverado 1500 CC 5.3 4wd.

My alt might be going out so I had it tested today. My truck has the D44 145 amp alt on it. I crossed reference the part number stamped on the alt which now has a new number. The new alt shows to be is a D37 145 amp on rockauto. The newest D44 stamped alt is now a 160. Did GM change the designation of the D44 to being the 160 and the D37 is now the 145?

The 160 has a bigger case with a different size pulley compared with the 145 so I don't think I can use the new D44. My truck has the KG3 rpo code.

do you have a need for increased charging abilities?

I've had issues with rockauto having things backwards in the past, so maybe try getting the GM part number and order that strictly off rockauto instead of what they "label" it as, cause if they say its a "152626352" (example number) then order that

Not really. I pulled the part number off the part itself and plugged that into gmpartsdirect.com and got the same number that is on rockauto.com which is the DR37. I even checked AC Delcos online parts catalog and it is showing the same, DR37. I makes me think that the DR44 is now only the 160 amp and the DR37 is the 145.

The DR44 is rated at a 145A but it has been tested in field at 180A or more.
