Default changing drum brake shoes

I think its time to change my brake shoes on the rear. with 80k coming up they are starting to sound like a trash truck with stopping at low speeds (like in a drive-thur)

so i went to take the drum hat off and it wouldnt move!
I noticed to screw holes that it some bolts with to be put in they would press against the axel. is that how you get the hat off?

any help would be nice

also it that is how you get it off what size bolt is needed?

thanks

Make sure you don't have the E-brake on & beat on the flat surface where you bolt the wheel on. It should loosen it up. Also remove the retailer clips if you got them.

I took mine off using the bolt holes, can't remember for sure but I think it's either an M10 or M12 bolt...just be sure to thread each of them evenly when you start tightening them.

This!

Once you get the drum moving a little bit, you should be able to just pull it loose.

Since I banged on my drum for 5 minutes last night before I realized the parking brake was on, I agree...start there

Remove the parking brake cable from the retainer under cab outside the frame rail. The big spring that holds the pad down is tricky, it took me awhile to figure out how to remove and re-install.

And I hope you don't find a leaking axle seal that trashed the shoes like I did

Why remove the parking brake cable from the retainer? I've never had to do it for drum brakes before...

Something they changed in this design?
