I got my Kooks 1 7/8" headers and Corsa catback in May but have just now FINALLY received my y-pipe and will be getting everything installed soon. However, before I get tuned I want to make sure I have all the basics covered first so I'm not paying for retunes all the time. Do the cold air kits actually make a big enough difference to where I will be missing out if I get tuned for the exhaust mods and am still sucking through the factory airbox? I know the Vararam is supposed to add a measureable amount of hp but I have read some reports of shoddy build quality and cheap materials. Has anyone done any before/after dynos or racing with any of the better quality kits?

 

Honestly man, i didnt see/feel any difference when i put mine on. I say stick with the stocker and put a drop in K&N filter.

 

I figured as much and am glad to hear it. I would rather forgo the 300-400 bucks on a CAI and put it towards a set of 4.11s and since I have 4wd it will be kind of expensive (around a grand or so I'd guess) but would like to get it done before a retune all the same.

 

The 4.11s will net you way better gains

 

That I knew for sure. I'm just trying to make sure I have all of the basics covered before my first tune so that I can cut down on the need for future retunes and adjustments.

 

I did an Airaid SynthaMax (oil-free) drop-in and an Airaid M.I.T. yesterday. They are sold together as the Airaid Jr. Sounds good, but from.what I've heard I won't see the real performance gains until I have it tuned. I am planning to get with Blackbear next week anyway, it isn't too expensive, filter is about $55 on Summit or you can get the filter/tube for $170. Reuses the stock airbox but everything else is aftermarket. Great gains for a lot less $ than the CAIs.

 

I haz got like fitty real wheel horsepower from it brah, do et.

I'm sure it helps a little but not like a huge noticable *** dyno difference.

 

I used a k&n and a piece of 4" stainless tube with a rubber 90degree elbo for the inlet to the TB...

soundls like it might suck the fender into the engine but other than that not much..

Id say go with the AirRaid Jr. Kit

 

Yeah, it was definitely an immediately noticeable difference in audio nice bellow on acceleration and you can hear the difference in airflow as well (WHOOSH!!!). Like a CAI, the real gains will come when tuned; as it is, the factory tune has no provisions for extra airflow.
