look around this site and you will find countless "my 4l60e broke" threads...
spend the extra money now on a healthier transmission, than having to buy a built one later...
better towin, racing, and fuel mileage... why the hell not go for the newer technology...
g*luck with ur next buy..

I would love to have a 6L80E. I believe the 6L80E is rated around 430 ft/lbs were the 4L60E is rated at 360 ft/lbs.

I went from a 01 4speed to a 09 6speed and I'm not real happy with it.
If you think the 4spd downshifts too much wait till you drive a 6spd.
It doesn't stay in 1st long enough and seem like it's always hunting for a gear when touching the gas pedal. Driving it in tow mode feels much better but then it seems to shift only up to 4th gear on the highway.
I loved the 6spd when I test drove the truck but now after two months in normal driving conditions I think it needs some refinement in the shift programing.

Where did you read this? I dont think the 4l80e and 6l80e share anything in common. If you search James B's posts on here, he made an excellent post comparing the 6l80 to the 4l80.

The 4l80 and 6l80 share nothing in common save for the same 32 spline output size.

If you have a 2wd then a 6l90 would be a better swap strength wise!!!

Well, y'know- my schtick with the 6 spd is that you have to be more intentional with it. On my truck with the 4L60 it like just drops into the next gear by itself, yeah, sometimes if you're too likght it'll jump 2 gears up. I'm privy to continued comparisons and evaluation as Mom has and Escalade that I can drive most anytime. Thing I've noticed on the Escalade that the gear spacing is nice, it doesn't fall out of the powerband between shifts like the 4L60 ya do. I wonder if it's in the tune that you have to almost wrestle the transmission into the next gear. I've tried getting in there with my HP Tuners to take out the govorner but it tells me that it's the wrong OS. I'm gonna get on teh HPT forums soon, but that's what I've seen so far..............

Perhaps he meant the 6L60 vs the 6L80 (I think the 60 is only used in cars)...

I went from an 01 5.3/4L60E to an 08 6.2L/6L80E and I would never consider going back. It does shift more but with a tune it gets better. Mileage average on the same commute went from 13-14 so I gained 100+HP and gained 1MPG. If I can keep my foot out of it I can get pretty good mileage.

With the very low 1st and double overdrive, it covers the whole spectrum. At 80mph I'm spinning right around 2000rpm.

Yeah- I remember that, went from a '91 305 with 175HP to my 2001 with 5.3 with 285HP. I remember what a leap that was and can't imagine a 6.2 in a part time 4wd truck. I'd say my reservations with the 6L80 are all in the tune...........
