I'm looking at buying a 2011 6.2 Silverado to replace my 2009 5.3 with 14, 800 miles. Today I test drove a 6.2 and was not impressed however I know that with break-in my 5.3 performs better now than when new. I've been reading everything I can find today to figure out the lack of performance I experienced on my test drive of the 6.2 and thought maybe it's the octane. Now I see your numbers comparing results of 87 vs 93 octane and it basically doesn't justify paying $.30 more per gallon for 7hp/7tq.
I don't plan to mod the truck until warranty expires so wondering if 6.2 is really that much better (more power) than 5.3 stock with regular 87 octane unleaded???

I also have a 2009 5.3 but with 17.6k miles. When I bought it, you could not get the 6.2/6 speed combo in LT trim and now that you can I want to trade just like you. However, you are not the first person to tell me they drove the 6.2/6L80E combo and were unimpressed. I've always assumed this is the same reason my factory 3.73 geared/18" wheel 5.3 gets off the line like ****, which is the factory programming designed to save the transmission.
Right now I live near an E85 station and use it exclusively and would consider an E85 tune if it weren't for the fact that if I go out on the road then I would have to run 93.

As far as the intial impression of the 5.3/6speed goes, I will agree that they shifted like **** in brand new form, but after they "Learn" how to shift it is much more manageable. Slap a Tune with the TCM being tuned as well and its a totally different truck, im talking .5 secs in the quater mile faster. GM Really needs to refine there Tuning on these vehicles.
Far as the E85 goes, if you have access to it to it go for it. I "Heard" of some people with these trucks geting away with bumping there AFR to 16:8:1 and acheiving the same if not better fuel economy on the HWY all the while geting another 15+hp from the higher octane.

I know I could have got the 5.3/6L80E combo with quad cab in '09 but I don't like quad cabs. Now I can get an '11 extended cab 6.2/6L80E 4x4 Z71 which is what I wanted but couldn't get in '09.
I think with headers and other bolt ons and an E85 tune the 6.2 would be pretty stout. Living right next to two E85 gas stations makes this doable, I run it exclusively now with one exception: leaving town. I wonder what it would run like on 93 with an E85 tune?

. I wonder what truck they started putting the 6.2's in back in 09, I know they came in Denali since 07
.Hmm that would definetly be a good question to ask one of our sponsored tuners, Wheatley would be my first suggestion.
