This is my first time to lower anything so i have some questions that are probably pretty easy to answer. I have a 2008 silverado and i wanna do a 5 7 drop on 24's. I have about 800 dollars to spend on a kit so i just wanna know if i need to notch it and what would be a good kit for me to run. Also what tires do i need to run to minimize rubbing as much as possible. I have 305/35/24 tires now which im guessing are way too big. Any help and advice would be really helpful. Thanks alot.

 

Best bet would be to wait on a used kit to pop up for sale. I lucked up and came across one for sale for $400 shipped. You dont have to notch it with a 7" drop, but its not a bad idea. Most guys with 24s and a drop that low run 265/35s. 305s will be way too wide. It all depends on the offset of the wheel though. Some guys with 22s have to run 275s but im at a 4/7 with 22s and 305s and I dont rub.

 

yea with the 4/7 u wont bottom out.....on 24s ide do 295 30s ive got the Mcgaughys kit and it rides good imo

 

You need to notch it, even with an empty bed..... dips on the freeway you will bottom out, mine did on a daily basis before my notch was done. Put almost any amount of weight in the bed and forget about it.... Sounds real nasty when that axle jumps up and slaps the frame too.

 

I ran 305/35/24's with a 4/7 and had very minimal rubbing issues, just when a backed up with the wheel cranked. You don't need to notch anything just remove the bump stops and welded in mounts. That set up was with Foose wheels and a generic offset. I have since changed to 295/35/24's with billets and custom offset in preparation for bagging it.

 

If i ran a 4/7 would it still be preferable to notch it? Im not against the idea but im wondering? Ill probably try to fit the tires i have and run the stock 20s until i get new tires if they don't. I wanna go as low as possible but i have no idea what to do.
