2011 brakes suck! Options?

Sticker on my truck was 35, obviously didn't pay that but that's what the sticker was. And to be honest I didn't specifically look for rear disk at the time, just assumed it had it being a newer truck and didn't think people still used drum. Come later to find rear drum

The biggest issue with GM's rear disk setup was the parking brake shoes that would break loose. That is why they swapped back to drums. I doubt it had anything to do with more surface area or actual durability of the disk brake system. I'm sure they just got tired of having to do warranty work to install the updated clip to hold the parking brake shoes right.

Drum brakes are junk. After a number of Chevy trucks over the years - all with shitty brakes but none worse than a '93 3/4 ton big-block Suburban I had - I fell in love with the 4-wheel disks on my '99 Silverado. Good feel, great braking power in mountains or towing, and they NEVER needed maintenance. I 'bout crapped when I was looking at the '11 trucks and found out they had gone back to rear drums. Why not go back to dragging your feet on the road, that's even cheaper to build and that's all they care about, right? Not sure I would have bought one if they didn't offer disks with the NHT.
1slow - I heard the same thing about the parking brake problems with the rear disks, and in my mind that's a REALLY suck reason for a manufacturer to go back to stone age technology.

i noticed a couple things about the brakes on my '10 silvy. for one thing, they fade super quickly. the first 1-2 hard stops (think 120mph-30mph) are great, if i do it again they are nearly useless. 2nd, The rotors were warped after 10k miles and i had to replace them, the new ones are now also warped (truck has 39,165 miles now).
i have no complaints about them during normal driving, or during emergency stops in traffic. actually, when i got rear ended the lady behind me thought i had hit something because i stopped so quickly. she actually said "wheres the car you hit?".
i would like to do an upgrade of some sort but i very rarely drive the truck now, and when i do i almost never go over 65mph. its kind of not worth it to me.

I'm just shy of 20k on my 11 6.2 truck as well, four-wheel discs and bigger tires with plenty of time on and off the pavement, and no squeaks or issues yet. If I hit the left pedal, it drops the anchor hard.

If you prefer discs, find a wrecked VMax and steal the rear end. I have no complaints with mine. Other than I warped my front discs when I had my front end apart lowering it... I'm looking at the SSBC 14 inch front rotors to fix that eventually. (not to mention driving a Lambo in Vegas kinda spoiled me.) ~$550 for a 14 inch pair of brakes seems like a bargain to me.
