They do come from the factory with 5w30 in them a change to 10w30 will usually help.

A sump of fresh HT/HS Mobil 1 0W-40 has bumped the pressure at least 5+ psi in every instance.
Does it make any other difference? I can’t say. Less worrisome when eyeballing the gauge though.

Do you know what yours read when it was checked?

My 2012 with 300 miles at hot idle while in D at a light or something is 22ish but if I put it in park or neutral it will get closer to 30. Hot cruising hovers right around 40 at 55.

Now I currently have a 2012 loaner while my tranny is getting worked on and it's 35-38 hot idle in gear. It's brand spankin new with 50 miles now. Seems like a lot of varience between trucks, but I've also read that the cluster gauges are more of an indicator than accurate measurement. I want to think 20psi on the cluster gauge is nothing to worry about. I've even seen a friends fluctuate up and down real slow between mid 20's to low 30's in park.

Don't know what the gauge read but I now have 2000 miles on it
I got a loaner too but it was a 4.3L so I can't compare
Also I have heard its the vvt
I don't know...
I will be changing the oil in a week or so and will use 10w30

I'd feel better if everyones was the same, but the loaner I have never been below 35. I haven't driven it more than 10 miles in a shot, but that same 10 miles will have my own truck down close to 20 at idle in gear. I don't like it.

20 psi @ idle is normal on dod. Save your worries for when and if oil pressure doesn't rise with rpm.

So why doesn't my loaner DOD do it? Maybe not enough miles on oil(60)? I didn't notice until 150 on mine, but can't say I was watching either.

i agree w/ 02 black ws6
i've got a rcsb '11 5.3
the gauges are improved over previous idiot needles that only moved if the pressure was very low but they still aren't dead on. mine is around 12 o clock(40) at start up and when warm idling moves to around 10 o'clock then at throttle runs around 2 oclock. at cruise when warm its just below 40.
I have engine noise at 13k miles and its been there as long as i can remember.

I may pull the DOD off next year when i cam it but for now I really like the 19mpg city out of this thing and don't want to mess w/ it.

I do have a stumble at idle that the dealer swears isn't there but it idles much rougher than my father's 2001 w/ 100k+ miles on it.

After I complained of a startup noise on mine I ended up with a new oil pump. There was a string of bad oil pumps with an out of spec clearance cause the oil to aerate.

New oil pump fixed the startup noise and the lower pressure. 30 psi is now the lowest I see and maybe not quite that low with a hot idle. Factory oil was dropped during the pump swap, but I doubt the oil change had anything to do with the psi rise.

My 2011 5.3 runs pretty low also, changed the oil and went to synthetic 10w30 but still didn't help much, I quit worrying about it after a while, has 13,500 miles and a turbo on it and no problems yet.
