Even still the 4L60 is no screaming hell imo they are barely good enough for a V6 let alone a V8. Crazy that GM didnt use the 4L80E as the goto unit for these trucks

The 4L60 can be a good transmission for some... It's just that the quality control so they're ALL good transmissions isn't there...

I don't have a cam, but my 5.3 is BB tuned with most of the torque management removed, firmer shifts and higher shift points (which will go up when I get the AFM hardware removed...) and I flog the **** out of my truck every time I drive it

That being said... I'm still going to get rid of mine as soon as I can

I have not read one good thing about the stock 4L60e .... But hopefully after they build it up it will be a different story

if they rebuild it and don't charge you for it, i'd sell it on CL and use the funds for a better option.

Making probably over 500rwtq in my Tahoe and my transmission has never been out of the truck (knock on wood). Still has a bunch of torque management left in, I don't know why you would take lots of it out unless you love rebuilding transmissions.

Makes the truck slower

IMO, a truck shouldn't NEED torque management when it's bone stock for the transmission to last. It should only be there to make the shifting smoother.

I agree completely. However it's not going to happen. Too much money out of the big Whigs pockets.

True the odd time they seem to last forever. I had an 84 Z28 with the old small spline real JUNK 700R4 and that thing? Went through HELL and back. It was my only car for a few years and I towed my boat and sleds and drove the hell out of that thing and it never went. Around 330k kms when I finally scrapped the car from rust.

But they can be built to handle some serious gaff theres no doubt about that. My local friend and tuner runs 8.8 @ 160 in his 01 blown ZO6 on an RPM transmissions 4L60e so it can be done.

Over the years Ive had loads of them in trucks mostly and they were hit and miss. In my experience they seem to pack it in around 120k kms and once rebuilt with the beefier clutches and whatnot they last the life of the truck. Quite a bit of towing here too
