Default 14 bolt differential

I have searched this forum and a couple of other ones on this subject… I want to put the 14 bolt differential in my truck that is a 2010 1500 2wd with the 6l80 transmission and the 5.3 I have found one out of a 2008 gm 1500 truck with a 6.0 and a 4l80 transmission. The other good thing about it is it already has the 4.10 gears in it from the factory as it has the gt4 code. Is this differential a simple swap for me? Pull out mine and put this one in? Any one try this?

On another note it has jd9 brakes can anyone inform me on that as i would like to put the corvette Z06 brakes all the way around my truck.

Thanks in advance

Don't the 14 bolt rears have 8 bolt hubs? If not, I would have tried the swap. It seems pretty straight forward to me, just double check to see if the ABS sensors are in the same location as the axle you have now.

Nope - my 2011 1/2 ton with 6.2 has a 14-bolt 9.5" and 6-bolt hubs. Some 14-bolts have 8 bolt hubs , but I believe that's only on 3/4 ton trucks.

definitely measure backing plate to backing plate and hub to hub and mounting pad to mounting pad, even though in "theory" it'll swap right in, don't wanna pull yours out and find out the new one isn't right

GT4 is 3.73
GT5 is 4.10
JD9 Brakes, 17" wheel disc/disc

With out seeing both rear ends, I am not sure how each is equipped.

It should be a fairly simple swap as long as there both 6 lug axles but a 14bolt drive shaft is usually 5/8 of an inch shorter.

If it came from a factory equipped 6.0/4L80E truck then it most likely has an 8 bolt lug pattern.

You want a rear end from a similar body style truck with RPO code AXN =14 bolt 9.5 Hybrid found in the 1500 trucks.

wouldn't it be possible to just swap the axle shafts from that AXN diff you mentioned?
if he found a good deal, maybe its worth it to find a couple of shafts to make it a 6 lug

It's not quite that Simple.

The 1500HD/2500LD 14 bolt 9.5 axle has a different brake offset as well as a different backing plate bolt pattern.

I went through all of that on EVILGMC's truck. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...ctures-477641/

Onefastbrick thank you for the information! That made things easier!

I have found a rear end that has the codes axn,gt5,jd9,and g80

Looks like it should work great!

This poses another question though drive shaft……

I talked to driveshaft specialists and they said I need to go to a 2 piece driveshaft as my factory one is too long for the speed it would be turning with the 4.10 gears. Crew cab 2wd short bed…. from what i have heard these trucks tend to have driveshaft problems any how so that makes sense… Does anyone know of a shop that makes a crossmember for the center support bearing? The gentleman at driveshaft specialists said there is a company making them but doesn't know who thought you guys might know??

Thank you again for the great feedback!

I would definitely get a 2 piece unit.

I am unsure who make's a bolt in cross member though. There fairly simple in design so it wouldn't be hard to make one or use a factory one from an extended cab.

A GMT900 AXN 9.5LD FROM a 6.2L 1500 bolts right in, only the park cables are different... ebcm, master, booster, are all the same part numbers.....only thing that is a different part number is the driveshaft.
