Default 09 trucks question

A friend of mine got his 09 sierra today and it doesnt have the 6l80 it has the 4l60e I called the dealer and asked they said It doesnt come 6speed only the 4 speed is that true or all 09 trucks are 6speed??

in the regular cab they added a traction button and they changed the side mirrors to the 3500hd mirrors thats it. IS that what you guys get in the US?

On another posting only the big dogs get the 6 speed this year till 2010 becouse of poor sales.

I personally wish I had the 6 speed. I ran loaded up and the 4 speed leaves alot to be desired so I hope a swap kit will be coming out soon

You don't need a "swap kit". Just get a good tune and your 4 spd will no longer "leave anything to be desired".

GM's stock tuning sucks.

The lower end models (5.3 ext, reg cab etc) were supposed to get the 6 speed later in the model year but with the way things are right now its anyone guess when that will actually arrive.

Update: From brochure, right now the extended and crews with the 6.0L get the 6 speed. The crew with the 5.3L gets the 6 speed as well. The Denali of course is 6 speed. All others are 4 speed with the footnote that the 6 speed will replace the 4 speed "later in the model year". These are all 1500's of course.

.......and I've read that all new pickups with the 6L80 come with 3.42's period. Whether you like it or not. No more choices. The reasoning behind all this change is that its supposed to bring up GM's fuel economy ratings across the board. ......Not so sure of what thats supposed to do for those who do a lot of towing.

That is true but the first gear of the 6 speed is a stump pulling 4.03 compared to the 4 speed 3.06 so most people won't notice it...

4 speed: 3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.696

6 speed: 4.03, 2.36, 1.53, 1.15, 0.85 and 0.67

All kinds of info here on the various powertrains for 2009:
