Default 08 vmax?

Guys I am looking at an 08 Sierra SLE VMAX with max trailering package, it has 63k on it and I think I can get it for $23K.

My question is does it have the AFM (Active Fuel Managment)?

I think it does. If im not mistaken the 5.3L, 6.0L and 6.2L have the AFM (fuel saving). As far as I know the 4.8L is the only one that doesnt have AFM, I could be wrong.

I know the 6.2 does not have it.

I guess my next question is if it does have it can it still be tuned?

Yes, it can be tuned. My 5.3L has it and its tuned. Your tunner can turn off the AFM, but if you get a cam, its recommended to remove the AFM componenets suck as: Lifters, lifter trays, Valley cover, cam sproket (if using 3 bolt cam).

Look up DOD delete kit

The only downside to that buy is its the last year of the 6.0 in the VMAX's, starting in 09 they put 6.2L in them with another 40hp. As far as the AFM goes, I don't think any of the VMAX's had that.

I am pretty sure they did, I just bought an l76(Vmax) shortblock and it has DOD lifters.

Here is what wiki says..

I realize the 6.2 with the 6 speed is a better engine and thats what I prefer, but they cost about $7k more than what I can get this truck for.

I will be comming from an 05 Avalanche with a 5.3, so lighter truck and bigger engine.
