these are what the cal screens look like.
The numbers on the left are the various processors in the truck.
engine
brake
tranny
body etc.
The stuff on the right is the cal # for the item.
The numbers on the right need to match the origional build numbers that are linked to the vin.
Tuning changes the numbers on the right.
The dealer runs the vin to get the origional numbers for both sides of the screen and will compare them to the current #'s
for changes

Here is the link to get your stock numbers if you ever need them. Just put your vin in.

I did one more check today, pulled the plug wires, one at a time to see if it would eliminate or change the sound.
No change, indicating it may not be a wrist pin, and more likely a lifter noise, which is common and way easier to fix.

The truck runs pretty good on the stock tune, but doesn't shift as nice of course.

Firstly lets address this "can they tell if my truck has been tuned at the dealer" issue. GM can detect if your PCM has been flashed if its a Global A vehicle. According to Blackbear heres a quote;

History tracking is valid on Global A vehicles and 2007.5+ Duramax trucks ONLY.

Global A vehicles are:
2010 Coverage
Chevrolet Camaro
Buick Lacrosse
Cadillac SRX
Chevrolet Equinox
GMC Terrian
Additional for 2011
Buick Regal
Chevrolet Cruz
Chevrolet Volt

With the edge the ECM can only communicate so much at a time. Since the edge was plugged in, it was communicating with the ECM preventing Onstar from communicating. The same would happen with any number of scan tools, regardless of tune status.

Now as for Allgonoshow's engine noise? Did it happen to appear when you installed headers by chance?

Didnt mean to infer that it was BUT my LS1 had lifter noise albeit not very audible. When I installed my stainless works LT's the noise quadrupled in volume maybe even more. I then discovered that its fairly common when running some LT's they amplify valvetrain noise is all. Also in your case it doesnt mean the noise is fine but in my case it was and the headers added to our confusion. Thought it worth the mention is all

Regardless good luck with your noise I hope you find a resolution soon

I know what you mean,
manifolds-cast -absorb noise
headers thin and amplify noise.

Headers were on long before the noise started

Not really good news according to the one GM tech.

Allgonoshow,do you plan to pull the headers before going in?

Hey Gonzo, I posted this in another thread, I hope I am correct

I put my tune back to stock and all the calibration numbers are what they should be.

I did the step by step process in the Gm tsb 09-06-04-026b, with a tech2 to verify this. There
are screenshots in my other post to show this.

It doesn't appear that tech2 has a function to check calibration history, althought
the tech2 can be networked and there may be other ways to look at history that are not in the
Tech2 handheld menus.
So, to answer your question, no footprint that I can see, someone else may know different.
IF so, they could reply with specifics.

I think the source of confusion is the Gm tsb itself.

Gm has 2 separate diagnostic tools,
Tech2- for our trucks to 2011.
Global A- for Camaros and some other newer stuff.
The TSB outlines the test process for both, if not read carefully, you could assume tech2 shows
history. I made that mistake myself when I first read the tsb and posted some incorrect info.

The systems are different,
Tech2 shows a current calibration.
Global A, can will so calibration history.

I could be wrong, if so, feel free to correct me with specific info.

The Dealer doesn't care about the headers, only issue with the stock tune is the sel is on for the headers.
