but thats not all bad... sometimes after reading about the G80's giving out I wish mine was a non-G80. I cant get as far with my rear locker as my friend can with his lil 1 wheel drive 22R Toyota anyway
actually, i have the 3.73 diffs (GT4)...and they're still open - well the rear is
i eventually want to get a stronger locking unit for the rear

Silverado/Sierra from 1988-2006 (and 2007 "classic") PICKUPS: All Z71s are 4wd.
Tahoe/Suburban, 1988-1997: All Z71s are FAKE.
Tahoe/Subrban, 1998-2000: All Z71s are 4wd.
Tahoe/Suburban, 2001-2004: All Z71s are 4wd.
Tahoe/Suburban, 2005-2006: Z71 available as 2wd or 4wd. (I may be off by a year on when Tahoe/Suburban allowed 2wd z71s, but think 2005 was first year).
Colorado: Z71 can be 2wd or 4wd.
All GMT900 trucks (2007+): Z71 can be 2wd or 4wd.

For all models that can have 2wd z71 versions: the Z71 sticker/badge will say "4x4" underneath it if the vehicle is 4wd.

On GMT800 pickups, Z71 means stickers and shocks....those are the only two things you cannot get without checking the z71 box. Skid plates, G80, tow package, wheels/tires, trans cooler/oil cooler/etc are all available without it. They don't crank the torsion bars or put higher spring rates in Z71s either.

i have an 07 classic crew. skid plates, torsion bars, lift blocks, trailer hitch, 20's stock. with a 4.8. also my truck was lifted like a z71. my truck is set up like a 4x4 without the 4x4 stuff. and its not a z71 either. i think i might have one of the weirdest trucks around imo. i could have swore i have heard of a 07 classic z71 2wd. i might be wrong.

Didn't know they did torsion bar 2wd 1/2 ton crews. My Dad had an 06 2wd torsion bar ext cab *SHORT* bed, i.e., the 5'8" crew bed. Toward the end of the GMT800 things got weird...didn't think they ever did a 2wd z71, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong.

I think 06-07 classics offered the Ext Cab with the extra short bed(ie crew cab bed) and it was setup like a 4x4 with torsion bars and skid plates and such, but no Z71 package decals.

I have an 07 NNBS RCSB that is a 2WD-Z71, really only got that because it was the only way I could find the 4.8 Liter/lim slip rear/3.73's all packaged together with alloy wheels and a few of the nicer items--short of ordering one anyways.

It's not that bad, I still paid for all those things too. Checking the individual options without the stickers/shocks comes very close to or can even exceed the cost of getting the Z71 package. I picked my truck because it had the really cheap OEM tires on it (was going to replace immediately, didn't want to pay $450 extra for the same tires with white letters) and a special $2k discount built into the sticker (before the rebates).
