Default Wrecked my truck!!!

I still cant believe it. I wrecked my truck thursday. I ran into the back end of a Honda Passport with NO TAIL LIGHTS, and guess what! My trucks front end is over a foot shorter! The front end is demolished. The radiator is busted and about 2" from the pullys. The honda only has dented bumper and some scratches on the back hatch. What the FU#@ is up with the weak front ends? Im really disapointed that a $30000 chevy truck would be made so cheap. The air bags even failed! Dont mistake my bitchin, Im still a chevy truck nut, But is the only thing on these trucks thats not made cheap anymore the power train?

It sounds like you did not get hurt. I belive these truck are designed to crumble up front so it absorbs much of the impack and the passenger do not get hurt. Sorry about your loss man

ouch

Like shark said, safety issue. But that airbag issue, thats no good

these new trucks don't take any impact of any sort easy, whether it be hail, shopping cart, or a mercedez benz backing into the part under the driver side ext. cab window .....

Dude it takes a good hit to set off the air bags. It sounds like the truck absorbed the impact pretty good so that's why the bags didn't fire.

but c'mon, good absorbsion doesn't exactly mean good safety though. Lets put it this way, if he's surprised the airbags didn't go out, it musta been a pretty hard hit. This is ofcourse assuming he's been in previous accidents.

Eitherway, apparently he's not hurt, so it woulda been a waste and a fat hole in his wallet to replace them anyway.

Actually, the crumple zones are there to dissapate energy and keep the driver from absorbing it, likewise for the airbags. I'd say the front did what it is supposed to, but I am a little suprised that the airbags didn't deploy since the sensor is up front. However, when a vehicle impacts a "soft" object (like another vehicle, as opposed to a wall) it will take a harder hit to set off the bags, maybe it just missed the required impact energy. But anyway....glad to hear everyone is ok.

like snake said, whole outcome would be different if you didnt run into an "suv". Thats something us dropped trucks always gotta worry about. suv bumpers to our grills is like brick through water :/

i hit a big whitetail deer the first week i bought my truck from the dealer. still had a full tank of gas and less than a 100 miles. i hit it going 65 mph. i never seen a deer run so fast into the road before. i didn't have time to hit my brakes. i hit it directly with license plate and bowtie emblem on the grill. the grill exploded before my eyes. the airbag did not deploy. i got out and the front of my truck was completely gone. no grill anywhere to be found. my headlights were hanging out by the wires, looked like eyeballs coming out of the sockets. shocked that the hood was not touched. some guy in a dodge ram pulled over to drag the deer off the road. he was coming the opposite way and he said the only thing he saw was the front end of my truck exploding. radiator was gushing on to the pavement. luckily i was 1 mile from home. my dad came to pick me up, left the truck there, and luckily i still had my saturn to drive, which was 4sale at the time. if i was in that car, that deer would of been in my lap, and i probably would of been 6' under. the damage ended up being $4000. now everytime i pay my insurance bill, i don't mind paying it since i only had to pay a $200 deductable that day.

these trucks really do take alot of absorbtion instead of brute strength. my last major accident was a head on collision, both me and the other car (a rav 4) were going about 45-50. i wasn't wearing a seat belt like an idiot but i walked away...well crawled out the window then walked away. all i had was a few cuts and bruises. the truck however didn't look so good, but it took one for the team. now the airbag issue, that's something to maybe worry about, that doesn't seem right to not go off under those conditions. but anyways, glad you and the other driver are alright.
