Default Will my friends 1993 s10 beat me

My buddy has a 1993 4.3 liter non vortec extended cab 2 wheel drive s10. He is putting a 500 lift cam in, headers, true dual, custom tune and port and polishing the heads. My question is will he beat my 2003 gmc sierra with full bolt ons. My truck is a 5.3 and runs a 15.10-15.25. My firends S10 only runs a 17.9-18.1 stock. He thinks he will beat me but I really don't think that the little v6 will gain that much from a bigger cam and headers. Let me know what you all think. Later, Jared

your friend ought to put that money into doing a V-8 swap, then he would beat you.

My buddy has a 96 S10 w/ 4.3 v6 w/ all bolt ons including gears and good tires and i burned him easily with my intake/exhaust 5.3. You should walk on him without any effort at all. Clean up that rear view mirror so you can see him clearly.

I had a 94 S-10 SS with the cpi 4.3 and it ran 10.30 in the 1/8th mile stock. That would been around 16.10 qtr mile. After a .500+ lift cam, headers, exhaust, and tuning it went 9.60 1/8th mile which woulda been low 15's.

If he is starting with a tbi 4.3 he is just pissing in the wind. Tell him to drop in a tbi 350-the harness, exhaust, front accesories will bolt right back up- hell even the computer will work with just a chip change. Then he would have a 14 second sleeper with good gas mileage etc.

No he is not pissing in the wind, you guys just have not seen one run right or to full potential. My winter beater is a 94 TBI reg cab shorty S-10. It went 14.9 with 98' vortec heads and a stock vortec cam from a 01'. With a not optimal tune to boot. Now it has a 01' vortec heads with factory rollers and a small crane cam. I plan on going 13.99 with it just to prove a point as soon as the track opens. It has a few minor trans mods too, 13 vane pump, kevlar band, clutches, shift kit, billet super servos, boost valve, 2200 converter.

More then likely you will still beat him though if he keeps the stock heads on there. The vortec heads are were its at cause those TBI heads are worthless.

ya my friends is a extended cab single spinner. I just don't think that a cam and headers would make a 3 second difference. Last time we raced i had four people in my truck with a full tank of gas and it weighed over 5800 lbs and we still pounded my friend by like 10-15 car lengths. 3 seconds is a lot of room. I just think that tbi are gutluss pigs.

My 93 rcsb S10 ran low 16's with the 4.3/5 speed completely stock. With those mods he should have a real good chance.

i don't think the S10 is going to have a chance in hell. the truck will have the parts to be able to beat you, but i doubt he'll be able to get it working as it should. i went 14.86 with my gt having never had the valve covers off, still had the stock chip, etc. with a little better track prep i'd have pulled off a 14.7 the same day. it's all in getting the parts you have to work together properly.
