I had a black 85 Monte SS with a 350 ZZwhatever motor, built 200R4, Hooker duals, etc.,etc. before the truck. The car was starting to require constant attention, and since I was a mechanic at the time, I was getting a little tired of working on it after fixing cars all day. I always wanted my own truck but was too busy building hot rods, playing bass, and drinkin beer to afford one. Well I saved up some cash so I figured I'd buy something new with four wheel drive and pretty much leave it alone, maybe a few bolt-ons, nothing major. I've driven Chevy's all my life, so when they came out with the new body style and GENIII truck engine and planted this black truck on a riser out front of Paramus Chevy, forget about it! I drove by it every weekend and drooled over it. One Saturday I walked in there and bought it.
First thing I did was mudflaps, sill plate protectors, and a bed liner...picked em up the day I bought the truck. I promised myself that I wouldn't mess with it mechanically...that actually lasted about a year. First came the bolt ons and it stayed that way for a while. Once I started investigating camshafts I stumbled across this website...that was the last time I had money in my wallet...

Sold my 97 z28 with cam and longtubes and various other boltons. Got tired of having a car and having to worry about the headers scraping on speedbumps. Now im driving my 97 chevy I had in highschool. Let me tell you, the tail that this truck attracts is just unbelievable, im not sure if its the chipping paint, torn from ABS wire(dog got too it) or the broken horn that sounds like a goose when you mash it.(great for scaring people and getting a good laugh). Now, with 130k on the clock, this bitch is just getting broken in, dont forget about the nasty 1 wheel burnouts through intersections--my dad wonders why i go through michelins like a fat kid with doritos. I couldnt trade the memories of this truck for anything!

My first vehicle when I turned 16 was a truck and I've loved pick ups ever since.

I had a few 4x4 S10's before this and finally outgrew that size truck. The last one ('03 with 8k miles) was a lemon so it got traded in for the Silverado. Looking back, I should have stepped up years ago. Fuel mileage isn't any worse, but the room, capability, and POWER are no comparison! I still have an 88 Monte SS to mess with and modify (although its about finished), so the truck will stay mostly stock.
