whats the deal with metric bolts?

Default whats the deal with metric bolts?

I think I had the deal of the century i bought a wrecked 2002 gmc 2500 rear slammed frame damage only 46500 miles for $550 dollars yanked the 6.0l and the 4l80-e out and sold the rest for guess how much $550 dollars yes broke even.Does anybody know what metric bolt( i have the size) to use to put engine on stand do they make a grade type for metric boltsor do they use different system. it's a 8mm bolt i believe....i have my 6.0 on a stand right now......i don't remember the pitch though....i wanna say 2.5 or something like that.....

Same size and pitch as the threaded holes in the front of your heads. 10mm with a 1.50 pitch. Whatever the standard pitch is. I'm pretty sure it's 1.50. Make sure they are long enough to go through the engine stand and into the block at least 3/4". Mine were 10mm X 1.50 pitch X 75mm length. Depends on your stand though. Put a flat washer on the back of the head for good measure. I was told grade 8 bolts by my stands instructions but I think most metric bolts are already strong enough to handle the weight. BTW, go to a hardware store. Lowes doesn't carry **** in metric.

my lowes has all kinds of metric, but my hardware store has automotive grade stuff :p

Mine had about 5 drawers worth of metric but it was all fine pitch. They had an entire aisle of standard

Thanks alot for info really save time went crazy trying to find a grade 8 metric bolt there is no such thing.

In metric bolts a 10.9 stamped on the head is the equivalent of a grade 8.
