Default What mods for my 08 Denali?

Hey guys,
I traded my 03 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins in last night for a 08 Sierra Denali. I'm really liking this truck, well it's more like a car to me after driving the Dodge for 5 years. Being the gear head I am... my Ram was a 500rwhp daily driver. Anyways it's gone now. So what I need is to get a little more out of my Denali now. What are the top 2 or 3 mods for the 6.2 in the Denali? I don't know too much about tuning that's why I would like to find a mail in tune for it if I can. Is tuning with the EFI live or HP tuner that hard to get the hang of? I only ask because I'm building a 98 s10 with a lq4 and I was going to do a mail in tune on it also. The only thing I'm thinking now is if I can get the hang of tuning and can do both trucks with one tuner it may save me some money going that way. IF I can get the hang of it... Most likely the Denali will get more attention after the s10 is done but I just need to wake it up a little for now. Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help!

Mike

Your best bet for 3 mods would be intake/exhaust/custom tune. Black Bear and Wheatley are sponsors here and offer mail order tunes.

I kind of figured it was a tune, intake and exhaust. I'm just not sure what company has the best product out? Thanks for the links to the sponsors.

DEFINITELY a tune. I'm running a Blackbear. Also an intake helps. Not convinced an exhaust is really necessary as I believe the Denali exhaust (07+) are fairly free flowing. If you want more growl then go for it.

I did an exhaust, intake and tune on my 01 5.3 and the difference was significant. The tune alone on my 08 made a HUGE difference.

Thanks guys!
I've seen several posts saying a tune really helps get the power out of the 6.2. I just sent Blackbear a PM. What intake works best for this truck in your opinion? The VR Tri-Power intake looks like it would work. Is the stock exhaust 3" from the muffler forward? If so, I think a smaller 3" in/out muffler, 3" tall pipe and tip should work for now.

Bish, do you know if a relay harness is needed to run HID's in the 07 and newer trucks? I know some vehicles need them and some don't. I'm going to do a search but I thought maybe you would know off hand.

Thanks again guys!

I don't know if it is required but I prefer to use a relay harness. On my 01, the light switch would get pretty hot with just the regular headlights so I'm leery about running anything extra without a relay.

I have silverstars in mine and what a pain in the a$$ to change bulbs!

Also agree on the longtubes, they will give a nice bump with the rest.

Thanks Bish! My wife's Jeep would not light the hid's up without a harness. They would just strobe, that kind of why I asked.

Who sells a good set of headers for the 07 and newer trucks?

best advice you can get, those are the mods you always want to start with. Main bolt ons are a cold air intake, exhaust which includes muffler's/cat-back/headers/x or h pipe, then there is getting a good base tune from a mail order service. If you are lucky you live within distance of someone who can do a dyno tune for you. there are alot of other simple bolt ons that are covered in the stickies thread at the top of the page to, good luck and have fun
