So just above the oil filter there is this elbow and its an open source, i can stick my finger in it and it covered in oil what is supposed to be there?

It's the cover for where your oil cooler lines would go if your truck had them. Probably just needs a new gasket and you'll be good to go.

 

Should there be a bolt on top also feels like a hole?

 

The hole doesn't go all the way through.

 

been looking at some charts and such was thinking can i use RTV blue since i cant find that chart with the gasket on it?

 

Hmm I don't know if I would trust that... That is immediately post-filter, so oil pressure is very high there. You can just snag a gasket from an auto parts store. Pretty sure they come with oil pan gaskets. Might be able to snag one by itself.

 

Napa has the oil cooler gasket for 2.70. the part number is FPG-72435

 

Theres two versions of that gasket. One has two holes which is for the oil cooler equipped trucks, and the other is a elongated single hole for those without the cooler like yours. You want the single hole like this one.
