What makes a FFV?
#1
Just like the title says, what makes an FFV? Curious to wonder how you could convert an LS1 engine or any other engine for that matter to run on E85.
Injectors, advanced timing, bigger fuel pump, and stainless steel fuel lines are the only things I can think of that are used for FFV's. Anything else needed
or does Anyone have any books they know of or websites I could check out about this?
Hopefully getting a 2003 FFV 1500 in the spring!!!!

There is a sensor mounted in the fuel path that detects when you run gasoline or the corn oil ( ethanol, E85 ). Automatically adjusts engine programming according to fuel type, no driver interaction required.
E85 is becoming very popular for its low emission output and decent power. Plus it helps keep those midwest farmer types in the black and uses "local" fuel resourses!

this was about the most useful infomation I found - although it's not much: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/flextech.shtml
MPG seem to take a hit when running M85/E85 as well.

You said in my other post that I must look for a Z in the 8th digit of the VIN, correct? Are FFV trucks hard to find? I can't find one for sale, locally, that has a Z in the 8th digit. Its ether T or V, T meaning 5.3 i would guess and V meaning 4.8. Let me know on any information you can give me.
Thanks for the telling me whats done for FFV Trucks!! I wonder if thats all that needs to be done for any car or truck???

Yeah but all the other benifits of E85 is well worth it! I wonder if the added exspense on gas prolongs engine life? After all, it doesn't leave carbon deposits like gasoline does! Plus, its cheaper then race fuel thats for sure!!!
