Default what the heck is that noise

i havent been driving my truck much, but just the other day i started to push it hard(took it easy after tranny replacement), well now when i stop i hear the clunk once the truck settles down, then when i let go of the brakes to get going, it clunks, sometimes a double clunk clunk. i have other noises and stuff on my truck, but this one by far annoyes me, its like i can feel it move and everything. any of you 2wd owners experience this? let me know something.. its driving me crazy.

Sheered one(or some) of the teeth in the rear end? That happened to me on my 00 silverado.

Sounds like the ole rear u-joint needs some greasing. Been done twice on my truck so far (27K miles) and needs it badly again. Seems to need this every month.

Feel like a shudder when you first let off brakes and first tap the gas from a stop? Or feels like the bed shifting slightly up/down when you come to a slow stop? If so, that's probably your problem.

I had the dealer grease it the first two times so I am not sure. Didn't matter though, the problem comes back relatively quickly. I told them to just replace the damn u-joint but I guess they didn't believe me the first two times. The truck will be going back again soon and this time they better swap it out.

I'll let ya know if they come up with a permanent fix. You're right, the problem is MOST annoying.

There is a service bulletin to replace the driveshaft yoke going into the trans with a new
nickel plated version. The old fix was to grease the splines of the yoke but is temporary. i dont know if this applies to 2wd or not but a lot of 4x4's have this problem. Also I have heard of ext cab 2wd trucks having the two piece driveshaft replaced with a one piece aluminum version to correct a launch shudder condition. It is probably not the u-joints unless one is loose. They are sealed.

They've already replaced my front yoke with the nickel plated version and that didn't stop the problem. That's what they thought it was the first time. The only other thing they could've done each time that was listed that could've stopped the noise was "grease the driveshaft/u-joint" as they have it listed on the service papers. Mine is definitely a rear u-joint problem, no doubt about it.

anyone considered the springs? i highly doubt it but the u-bolts on the axel may be loose or the springs might be shifting a bit. check the shackle's and frame mounts(very doubtful). does the rear end make any noise? any vibration? is your truck lowered?
