Well, I decided to install the OD crank pulley today. I used the OTC puller, and it did bend the centering rod before removing it. I was just happy to get it off.

I got a generic 3 jaw puller from a local auto parts store. It was pre-assembled and just hanging on the wall behind the counter. I think it was 30 or 40 bucks. Similar to the one in the pic but each arm has another pivot point in the middle.

I got a longer bolt from Fastenal to start the pulley back on.

The amount of torque on the threads to press the pulley on with the longer bolt is nowhere near the amount used when final-torquing it down. I would never hammer it on partially and/or try to use a stock bolt to press it on the rest of the way. That's asking for a disaster.
