I have this uncontrolable habbit of looking at most after market parts availible for trucks, not just ours but all trucks, and thinking i could do way better with my ideas than most of the companys out there. Do any of you do this?
Im thinking about taking out a rather large loan and trying to start producing a line of aftermarket parts for trucks. I'd of course start with our trucks, and branch out to the Hemi(god knows those poor engines need all the help they can get), and most other GM and Mopar trucks. Sorry but i just cant stomach ford.
I have alot of ideas i think are great, and would attract alot of sales. What do you guys think about my chances of getting something like this off the ground?
From what i can tell by most of you guys with the home made ram air you agree that aftermarket could be better. And systems like the K&N FIPK arent very good, other than looks.

Boy howdy, the main reason poeple do not succeed in this is because they underestimate startup cost. first anything you make that requires more then just hand tools your going to need machine, fabrications, welding, benders, what t not etc... I have though about this for along time, and that is my one plan to do in my life. I will probably be some old fart in 35-40 years and everythig runs off water strap a rocket to his classic chevy truck and make a run for the moon or some crazy crap like that. If I am going I want to go in stile. But oh yeah would i love to rpoduce parts for the trucks. I also have a friend who ahndles the fords, I also have some good ideas for them, but dodge I don't waste my time.

Well they seem to hand out money to vets for bussiness loans, so i could take advantake of that. I have access to welding, tubing, and machine shops. Not to mention i already have my tax number and company name.hehehe(helps get parts at cost and avoid markup) Also i've delt with a few investors before, and with a good idea and some minor research to back up claims more funding is availible if need be.
My dream and goal is to own a SUCCESSFUL performance shop, and have all outstanding business loans paid off by the time im 30. Believe it or not i got my tax number when i was 18 just to get the dream going. At 16 i started saving money, and at 18 i opened a small pizza resturaunt to get some basic experience. At 19 the place was doing pretty well and we moved into a bigger place and expanded the menu. Then i sold it because 80+ hour weeks got old. Got a little money out of that deal. Anyway, enough life story crap. I think i may realy try this. The worst that can happen is i fail. Then try again in a few years.

Well every business is different and I have come to believe it is about 50/50 luck and timing. I think the timing would be good. All my buddies that have really made it were laughed at when they first started up. The most recent and notable pleaded out of felony drug charges and put every penny he could into his legit startup (about 7G's). Its now four years later and he is the owner of a fortune 500 business and worth near 100 million when all is said and done.
