like the title says im lookin at a 2000 or 2004 rcsb with a 5.3, both prices are right for the years but i have heard from ppl on here that 2000s are faster than 04s just cause of tunes, true or no?? also the 2000 is 4wd and the 04 is 2wd, need you guys $.02, thanks

The 2004 would be faster because it's a 2WD and it came with more power from the factory. Don't quote me on this...I think the 2000 5.3 was rated at 285 HP and the 2004 5.3 is rated at 295 HP. I've also seen ALOT of people on this site swapping out their '99-'01 PCM for a '02 and newer PCM. I guess the '02 and newer PCM's have better tuning capability than the older ones.

The fastest one from the specific trucks you listed would be the 04 since the 00 is a 4wd. Other than that, if both trucks were 2wd, it would depend on mods and how the trucks respond to them.

stock for stock the 2wd would win, with same mods and same tuning the 2wd would win, if both were 2wd with same mods and same tune then the 04 would win, simple reason as the trucks get newer so do the computers, they also get faster response from the computer.
look at it this way if you bought a computer in 2000 and then one in 2004 the newer computer would work twice as fast lol.

If both were 2wd and in stock form, I'm not so sure the newer one would win.
I've driven both, I've owned a 2000 5.3L. The newer trucks are dogs off the line due to excessive TM in the program. The older trucks didn't have much TM in there program.
My brothers 01' Z71 ECSB would out run my 2000 ECSB 2wd silverado. The difference was his comes with 3.73 gears and mine had 3.42's. Mine would try to hang until around 75mph, but after that, his would put many lengths on me.
We even both later placed Hypertech programs in our trucks. The results were pitifull after 100mph. His truck would leave mine a football field behind.
We both had 5.3L engines.
Even with his added weight, it walked my lighter truck.
I'd definately put his up against any newer year truck that had a 5.3L and just a tune. He doesn't even have a CAI kit, just a cosmetic dual exhaust flowmaster muffler with rear exit tips.
I even put a K&N CAI kit, TB spacer, x-pipe, dual magnaflow mufflers with dual side exit tips.
His still out ran me pretty much the same. I couldn't believe it myself.
Oh yeah, he even had 285/75/16 BFG All Terrains KO's. I had 255/70/16 Michelin Cross terrains.
He now has around 120,000mi on it. It still runs just as strong.
The newer PCM's may have faster processors, but the actual o.e.tuning program is holding it back.
So, I don't think a 4wd truck is held back all that much. At least not in this particular situation.
