Default Vortec MAX owners, has your power decreased?

When I first got my truck, during the break in period, it would easily spin the tires at only part throttle.

I drove it very nicely for the first 500 miles, but there were a couple of times I broke the tires loose. Once, I was coming to the end of a school zone where the speed limit increased so I gently pressed the pedal further and further until it kicked down. The tires spun wildly so I let off. This happened again when I was trying to get around a car because I needed into the other lane. Then from a stop once, I eased into the gas to about 3/4 throttle and I started to spin so I let off.

Lately, the truck feels more sluggish. I can feel (or at least I think) the torque management taking power away. I have not had any spin like I had before. I don't punch it from a stop because I would expect it to spin that way, but it won't spin them easily during kickdowns to first or hard acceleration in first anymore.

Does the computer learn from the wheelspin and retard your timing more the next time? What gives?

Any other VMAX owners experiencing this?

Mike

P.S. My truck still only has 950 miles on it.

I don't have a LQ9 Vortec MAX motor but I've noticed power differences with my 5.3. If I drive my truck like a responsible motorist for a couple days and suddenly floor it, I can easily spin the tires. However, if I have a heavy right foot for a couple days and floor it, I can barely spin the tires. The computer is constantly adjusting to your driving habit and I think it uses more TM if you frequently drive hard.

GET a ZIPPY shift kit and undo your tq management! But it does suck that the computers doing that.

remeber that brand new tires are pretty slippery as well.

i dont doubt that TM and its related tables are holding back some power. It made a huge difference getting tM removed 100% in my 97 rcsb.

I noticed that when I first had purchased my VHO it had a lot of torque at the bottom end. From a dead stop it would boil the tires and hook quite well after a several rotations of spin.
After I added the Volant CAI kit the bottom end torque fell off quite a bit. Though in turn it gave it a bit more mid and upper power, but not a lot to feel much in the seat of the pants.
I haven't attempted to place the factory air box & tubing back on to see if the bottom end power comes back, but I want to bet it will.
Has anyone else noticed this after a CAI kit install?
I've also noticed that the LQ9 doesn't like 87 or 89 or equivelant low grade fuels.
Mine will get spark knock upon hard accelerations in the mid and upper rpm's.
I never got spark knock with Nelson's street tune and using 93 oct fuel.
I've been without his tune for a little over a month now (Allen placed the stock tune back in) and have been using Shell 89 oct fuel. I get spark knock from time to time now.
I can't imagine what it would do using 87oct fuel.
Has anyone noticed this as well?

Jim

THANK YOU SIR. They are just 17'' M B motoring wheels and 265/70/17. BFG A/T. I wanted 20's at first but couldnt find an A/T tire i liked and need for my occasional hunting trips so i stayed stock size. BTW just polished them with a mothers power ball, i love that product!THANKS for the comp.

LQ9's need the best gas. they are high compression. Dont put that low grade stuf in, yuck! Espically if zippy fixes your tune it will run like crap w/lower octane gas.

93 oct from BP (aamco gas) or Chevron 93 oct
